How would you respond to the following logical fallacy?
Sir, would you be interested in an all natural pet wormer that is non-toxic and totally safe for your pets.
Clientele,” I will go with what ever the vet recommends. They know what they are doing and wouldn’t give it to the dogs if it was not safe. Besides, chocolate is all natural and it is toxic to a dog.”
There are a number of issues here. One, the conflict of interest that the vet has in recommending something he is going to profit from. Second, the flawed and often forged science that is emerging.
Actually the test for dogs having worms is inconclusive. The worm medicine does not have a high efficiency and is in some states mandated.
Most importantly, the Diatomaceous earth (DE) that I was going to recommend actually has a number of scientific studies with both animals and humans indicating that it is even more effective than the toxic chemicals the vet prescribes.
The difference, the DE is dirt cheap and there is no profit in promoting it.
So, how would you proceed to win the client?
I have a few ideas. The client in this case is my father. What would you do?
