I do not advocate using humor. Actually, it would be more correct to say I encourage my students not to use it. However, sometimes it does creep into my public speaking. If and when it is used, it is added like a seasoning to a salad. Just a little so that it is subtle.
Subtly using humor allows for the audience to get it or not. If not, it just does not matter. If they do, either way, the talk goes on.
Here is a list of computer humor that I will use in my public speaking on computers.

POLITICALLY CORRECT VIRUS: Never calls itself a “virus”, but instead refers to itself as an “electronic microorganism.”
FREUDIAN VIRUS: Your computer becomes obsessed with marrying its own motherboard.
GALLUP VIRUS: Sixty percent of the PCs infected will lose 38 percent of their data 14 percent of the time. (plus or minus a 3.5 percent margin of error.)
PAUL REVERE VIRUS: This revolutionary virus does not horse around. It warns you of impending hard disk attack—once if by LAN, twice if by C:>.
Have fun and keep improving your public speaking.
