It is amazing how people put faith in words.
This is actually better than the time a colleague whispered to me at a staff meeting, “Where can I tune into that radio station that our attorney is speaking about?” The radio station was the one that everyone is tuned into, WIIFM (What’s In It For Me)
Consider an email I got from one of my good sisters. It was about having found giants that supported the Bibles teaching about the Nephilim or Giants that lived prior to the flood of Noah’s day.

Do you believe in Giants
This and other photos made me curious enough to wonder. It was not until this next picture that the fact that they were fake became apparent.

There are several things wrong with this picture. I am a scientist and not an archeologist. However, this was one of my child hood dreams. What little I do know, this is not a real dig of a find of this magnitude (pun intended).
But….
All of this is not what is interesting….
You see, as a kid, I loved going around and saying there was no Santa. After all, just think, Santa was a lie, pure and simple.
And, if you take it to the logical conclusion, if parents lie about Santa, when the kids find out he is not real, how should they feel. But wait, what about Jesus. We never see him. Maybe he is not real either.
Or God for that matter, maybe he is only make believe. Or is it OK to pick and choose which things are real. Is fantasy different than telling a lie because it is fun?
I digress….
So, in a moment of sadistic pleasure, I dropped a note to everyone that got the picture mailed to them.
It simply said…..
Sorry but the big bone pictures are fake. Find out how….and why (and then had a live link to…)
Snopes.com
Much to my surprise, I got an email from one irate recipient of the truth. First they asked, in all caps, Who Are You? Oh yea, they were all red letters and all letters were caps. Forget yelling, this was pure and simple verb rage.
I actually feared for my noun.
When younger, I was a literary equivalent of a 97 pound weakling. Guys used to kick up copies of Byron and Longfellow into my face.
I am not a pacifist but I really do prefer to avoid even the the remotest thought of anyone going alphabetical on me or anyone for that matter. Life is too short.
Is my family at risk now too? So many questions, worries and concerns.
Oh it gets better.
Let me just cut and paste here, what came in the next email.
WHY WOULD THEY GO THROUGH ALL THIS DIGGING AND TAGGING IF IT WAS FAKE. Are you one of (my sisters) friend in (another part of the world)
I guess she did not read Snopes which tells why they would go through all this trouble, to fool people and start urban legends.
It is going to be hard to beat Piltdown Man, the all time greatest scientific fraud perpetuated on mankind. In case you did not know, Piltdown Man was not really the missing link, rather a prank that was believed to be real, like, well, the giant skeleton pictures.
What ever you do, when you say something from the stage, from your website, from your email or from your mouth, please make sure that it is real and truthful.
There are too many true believers who will follow every word you say.
So, do you believe in Giants? I do, at least in Giant Tales.
Speak well and prosper.
